2. From where did COVID – 19 start ?
It is one of the zoonotic diseases that transmits from animals to humans.
First cases of this novel coronavirus started in Wuhan, China. According to researchers and experts, the disease popped up in the humans who were closely connected to live stock market specially from bats.
3. How did the disease became ‘pandemic‘?
Human travel is constantly on the rise and international border crossing is so common in today’s times. Unfortunately, human bodies became carrier to this contagious disease and caused an outbreak globally.
4. How does it spread?
It transmits through tiny droplets released during coughing and sneezing. The virus remains active for different duration at different surfaces. It can also pass through doorknobs, elevator switches or any other contaminated surface.
5. The most common symptoms of Coronavirus (COVID-19)
a. Dry cough
b. Fever
c. Shortness of breath
d. Runny nose
e. Sore throat
The symptoms are very mild in the beginning. Infact, the person might sound and act normally and can just be a carrier.
6. Prevention is better than cure.
a. Practice social distancing
The virus can be transmitted even at a distance of 6 feet. Thus maintaining a physical distance is mandatory.
b. Wash your hands regularly
If you have exposed yourself to a suspicious object like a parcel, doorknob, grocery etc ; immediately wash your hands. Experts suggest to follow 20 seconds rule while washing your hands.
Also, keep alcohol based sanitizer handy specially if you are still required to go out during lockdown.
Absolutely refrain yourself from a common habit of touching your face again and again.
c. Disinfect your surrounding
Make sure to disinfect any surfaces around you including, floors etc.
7. Most susceptible age groups
People in every age group may catch it. However, most of them can fight it and get well on their own.
According to World Health Organisation, the following two groups remain in the most risky category because of their weak immune system.
a. Senior Citizens
The people who are above 60 years of age are way more prone to this virus than any other age group.
b. People with underlying medical conditions
The people with pre-existing health issues such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease are very vulnerable.
These two groups are required to take extra preventive measures to safeguard themselves.
8. Can Coronavirus reinfect the same person?
The answer to this is still unclear. However, there have been few cases where the virus has become active again.
9. Can pet dogs and cats transfer the disease?
There has not been any evidence that shows transfer of virus from dogs and cats.
10. When will this end?
This pandemic disease is considered as the most dangerous occurrence after world war 2. It has reached to more than 114 countries and infected more than 36 million people. More than 258K people have already died and sadly, the cases are still on the rise.
But, the growth rate of rising cases is on the decline and some of the countries have shown great results and are leading by example. Experts are able to predict the pattern and issue guidelines.
Scientists are constantly working to create a vaccine and there have been some positive results too.
Such diseases are usually vanish in few month’s time.
